I’ve noticed that there is more attention paid these days to slow living. And I don’t just mean for old people. There’s slow eating, slow jogging, and slow stitching, just to name a few. It’s more about being in the moment and noticing the pleasure that a certain activity offers with no goal and no need for perfection.

I recently read about Dr. Laurie Santos who teaches the most popular college course in Yale’s history, The Science of Well Being. She has researched practices that contribute to happiness and distilled them down to one word…

SAVOR “The deliberate practice of fully experiencing positive moments as they happen.”

We’re hurling toward the end of our stay in Austin. Time to SAVOR the walks in the neighborhood, the family that lunches and the friends that sit around the table working on a puzzle while watching a UT football game.

Life is not about moving toward the next ‘thing’, the next trip, the next project, or in our case, the next surgery (Lisa has back surgery scheduled in January.)
I’ve been trying to savor the final minutes, even my last physical therapy session. It’s a good habit to practice in this rushed world, and much easier to accomplish in Mexico where savoring is much more a way of life. Bacalar, here we come.
