Not a romance scam. Not a click on an unfamiliar link, nor an unexpected inheritance from a Nigerian prince. I did not give out my social security number nor buy anyone a gift card. And no grandchildren were kidnapped.
I bought a shopping bag on Facebook.
I’m a sucker for a great bag.
Surprise! This is what arrived in the mail.
When I contacted the company to return the bag, I was given an address in Hong Kong, not an artist in North Carolina.
Shipping to Hong Kong would cost more than the bag itself. When I Googled the company, Craftfolk, I found many complaints of “bait and switch.” I certainly was seduced.
Lessons learned:
-Do your research as to the validity of the company and the product.
-If it sounds too good, it is.
-And the biggest lesson for me was to submit a fraud case to your bank IMMEDIATELY.

I almost fell for the same thing, though a different product from the same site. “Lovely”, “hand-made” ceramic flowers that served as tiny water sources for bees in the garden, being made by an older lady who loved helping pollinators. They looked and sounded so perfect. Fortunately, I’m always a bit wary of Facebook ads, so I looked the company up on Trustpilot and saw numerous one-star reviews saying the flowers received were plastic and made in China – a complete rip-off. Really sorry that happened to you. I got the same ad just yesterday, months after I almost fell for it and am amazed this company is still in business!
