Lisa and I have moved into a new location where we will live for the remainder of time until our house is built. At this time it has no wifi which makes daily communication challenging and blogging nearly impossible. While we will be remedying the situation shortly, everything takes a bit longer in Mexico.
My MIL returns to California this week, and hopefully things will settle down a bit. It has been a whirlwind two months of traveling, moving, sightseeing and either being or having company.
Last night we went to Carnival Bacaler. What fun! I think everyone in Bacalar was there. There was a parade, vendors, a huge pachanga. I will know this is my community when I recognize people who are non-English speaking friends. Soon, very soon.
Not sure how much of a backwater Bacalar is, but Donna and I have a vacation house in Upstate NY where we can’t get DSL or Cable for internet – only dial-up or satelitie/dish network. What I use is a USB-modem on a laptop – essentially smart phone speed. It is fine for email and blogging and a little slow for surfing – too slow for streaming or downloading anything other than music (and slow for that too). Upstate I use Virgin because it is the least expensive monthly plan, although Verizon is better/faster. If Bacalar has 3G cell phone coverage it might work.
I am at the point now where I go nuts when I can’t get an internet connection.

Beautiful Altamira Oriole. Seen within US borders only at very southern tip of Texas. Saw one once in Rio Grande Valley and have always remembered it. Thanks for the pic. Best to you and Lisa. You will eventually get settled and look back on these days as a wonderful opportunity to learn about your new community.
