It seems that the older I get, the less enthralled I am with the lights, the gifts, and the fuss. Even our little Mexican town of Bacalar has a Santa parade and school Christmas shows. We’re having some folks over for a potluck so I guess any excuse to gather with friends and family is worth it. However you spend your time, I hope it includes what gives you pleasure. Happy Holidays.
DOS TORTAS

I’m in the process of giving away all my ornaments collected over about 50 years. Will never put up a big tree again. Breaking my heart and it was a lot of money spent. But, at the end of the day, it’s just stuff. Better on someone else’s tree than in a box in the closet.

Nice to lighten the load isn’t it. It’s time for me to declutter too.

We’re having a quiet one as usual. Love the pics, BTW!

Quiet is my choice as well.

Wishing the best to you and Lisa for the holidays and beyond. Most of the usual Christmas activities are for children, but I resonate with the spirit of renewal. For only the few days immediately around Christmas I light candles in the evenings and early mornings and smile at the pleasant memories associated with the small selection of holiday decorations that I scatter around my one-room apartment — tree ornaments in a cut glass bowl, Rocky the Hard Rock Cafe stuffed bear in a Santa cap with his buddy Ski Mouse (a small wooden mouse wearing a red top hat and, guess what?, on skis) a quartet of angels playing musical instruments figurines that date from the early 1950s when my family lived in Germany in an air base apartment building… I am not suggesting that you Bacalarans are sad in your tropical home, but you may enjoy this E.B. White story: https://www.nytimes.com/1977/12/26/archives/what-do-our-hearts-treasure.html I love the story. One year when my husband and I hosted some of our family for the holidays I read it aloud as we sat around the Christmas Eve dinner table. Feliz Navidad! Marcia

I gave the personal decorations that were my mother’s and the nativity to my children. I sometimes I wish I held onto them.

I spent Christmas housesitting 100 miles from home in a home I’ve never stayed in before with a dog I’ve never stayed with before. A friend dropped by for a few hours. Other than that, I did some writing and played some games and did a lot of reading. That’s Christmas to me these days, I guess.
Had I’d been home, I’m sure I’d have gone to some sort of a dinner with friends, but that’s really all I do. No cards, no decorations.
